PRESS RELEASE
John O’Gaunt School is celebrating the latest cohort of Year 11 students who have been collecting their GCSE results this morning.
Principal Richard Hawthorne said, “I am so pleased for our students and it is clear from these results that the hard work and effort over the last few years has really paid off for so many of them.”
Whilst all students deserve enormous credit, there were a number of individual accomplishments that stood out.
For example, Catherine attained an amazing eight Grades 7 to 9, with a Grade 9 and four Grade 8s among them. Libbie achieved seven Grades 7 to 9, with two of these being Grade 9 and two at Grade 8. Emily achieved a total of five Grade 8s and Arwen scored one Grade 9 and two Grade 8s. A fifth of all students achieved multiple Grades 7 to 9 including Oscar who attained six, Euan and Gabrielle who achieved five and Aaliyah who achieved four.
Mr Hawthorne commented; “In terms of data across the school, attainment and progress have greatly improved across the board, gaps have narrowed and as you can see, there are some truly amazing individual results. Despite being a small cohort of 83, more than 50 Grades 7 to 9 were achieved, nearly 10% of all examinations taken.”
Chris Waldon, Chair of Governors said, “Firstly, I am delighted for the Year 11 students at the school. I know that they’ve faced numerous challenges over the years but have faced these with courage and ambition. I also know first-hand just how hard staff work to support them and I feel proud to collaborate with the school, Excalibur Academies Trust, and my fellow Governors in our shared mission to provide every opportunity for all students to succeed at the school.”
Mr Hawthorne continued, “This Year 11 cohort are a special group of young people, and we are all extremely proud of each and every one of them.” He added, “Whatever their next steps, we wish each and every one of our students all our very best for a successful future.”
