JOG will be fundraising for ATE
25th April 2017
On 25th April the Year 11 girls had an emotional but satisfying last ever fixture for John O’Gaunt. The District Rounders Tournament combined both Year 11 and Sixth Form students. JOG entered a Year 11 team which included two Year 10 students. In JOG's pool were Theale Sixth Form, St Gabriel’s Year 11 and Kennet Year 11. In our first game against Kennet we got the whole team out before the 25 good balls were up, allowing them to only score 2 rounders. We then batted and secured the win with 4.5 rounders. In the second match we faced Theale Sixth Form. We had watched them previously and were ready for a tough battle, but JOG weren’t fazed and thrashed them 8 rounders to 6. The last pool game was against St Gabriels Year 11 which was a well matched game, but JOG still came out on top winning 6-5.5. Heading into the final, JOG then faced St Gabriel's Sixth Form team. Our team won the toss and chose to field first, with the aim of keeping the score down and having something to aim for. With some superb fielding and quick reactions Theale only scored 5.5 rounders. We then batted, starting off steadily but after some cracking hits into space the score soon crept up. The end result was a fantastic JOG win by 6.5-5.5 rounders.
John O'Gaunt Year 11 team now have the title of West Berkshire Rounders Champions. It was an emotional day for the girls and their coach, Miss Eggbeer, who said "It has been an absolute pleasure taking these students on their fixtures; they will be missed, but what a high to end on!"
Players were: Molly Terry, Maddie Robinson, Finley Lawson-Sanchez, Reese Matthews-Hewer, Chase Dundas, Charlotte Bright, Lucy Purnell, Courtney Hillier, along with help of Molly Skipworth and Tayler Reynders from Year 10. Well done to you all!
