What a brilliant start to the year it has been. Year 7 students have settled in very well and now seem to be ‘part of the furniture’ around here. All other year groups are back into the swing of things and are working hard.
I spoke in my last communication about ‘raising the bar’ this year in all aspects of school life from the standard of provision in the classroom to the standard of attitude to learning around the school. To this end, we have introduced new ‘Student Standards’ which we believe are simple and easy to follow for everyone. The standards make it very clear what we expect from every JOG student (I have attached a copy for you to have a look at). Your support regarding correct uniform and equipment is very much appreciated.
The year has well and truly started for our Year 11 students who last week completed their GCSE English speaking and listening component of their course. They now immerse themselves in their literature studies and Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.
Year 11 Information Evening – Thursday 29th September 6.30-7.30pm
This is an absolutely vital event in the Year 11 calendar. There will be presentations led by the Head of Maths, English and Science when they will outline the demands of the year ahead in those 3 crucial subject areas. This is certainly an event NOT TO BE MISSED and we look forward to seeing all our Year 11 parents and students.
It was great to see so many Year 7 parents and students attending our ‘Year 7 Information Evening’ on Thursday night. This was a great chance to discuss our expectations for the year ahead and for parents to have a chat with some key members of staff about any concerns they have.
Parent governors wanted
The role of a school governor is absolutely vital to the successful running of any school. This is especially true for JOG as we convert to an academy on 1st October. We will be looking for a number of parent governors who will be able to commit to termly evening meetings as well as the ability to spend some time in school during the school day on occasions. More details will follow shortly from the Clerk to the Governors, but if anyone would like to discuss this further with me please contact Sarah Thorne via email email@example.com to arrange a suitable time to meet.
Student of the Week
Each week students are nominated by staff for their outstanding work, attitude or effort. Last week was the turn of Year 7 who all received a certificate and a ‘sweet treat’. Well done to them.
We have relaunched our student leadership team this year and we are determined to have a vibrant, energetic student council. Elections are well under way across the school.
We also held interviews for Head Boy and Head Girl last week. This has been a rigorous process involving a written application, short presentation and panel interview with myself, Mrs Walker and Mr Holley. I am delighted to announce the following Student Leadership Team:
Head Boy – Jacob Taylor Head Girl – Eleanor Angell
Deputy Head Boy – Adam Quinn Deputy Head Girl - Denise Harris
Next blog will focus on music and sport at John O’Gaunt.
